A book about your life - a perfect gift for the family
Your life in a book
Have you thought about writing your life story as a book for your family to share and enjoy? Would you like some friendly, professional help?
I'm Katarina, an experienced Sussex-based writer who will gather your stories and memories and shape them into a rich, engaging autobiography. Using your particular words, expressions and style of speech, your story will be in your distinctive voice as if you've written it yourself. With photographs, letters and diary extracts, I will create for you a beautiful book to give to your family as a lasting life story legacy.
If writing doesn’t come naturally, if you haven’t got the time to write your story, or if your first language isn’t English, I can help.
Why write your story?
A family heirloom?
“Wonderful to have a book about Mum that we can pass on to the grandchildren. The best gift ever.”
A personal legacy?
“My children had only ever known their grandfather as a frail old man; they were amazed that he’d led such a remarkable life - and were seeing him in a new light.”
To make sense of the past?
“My book has made me feel proud of my life and what I have achieved, and my family understand so much more about my struggles.”
How it works
After an initial telephone call, we will arrange to meet, usually in your home or somewhere relaxed and comfortable. I will show you examples of my work and talk you through the book writing process.
At each interview, we will chat about important people, relationships, and events in your life. I will be an active listener, recording what you say and asking questions here and there to jog your memory. I can give you carefully constructed questionnaires to capture your thoughts and recollections. A few days after each interview you will receive a fully edited manuscript to check.
When all the interviews have been put together as one flowing story I will create a beautiful book with favourite photographs and illustrations.
Rest assured that all the information you share with me is in strict confidence and I will never judge or add my opinions to your story. I will simply listen, ask questions and ensure that you finish up with a compelling narrative that reflects how you wish to remember your life.
Throughout the project you will have plenty of opportunity to review your story and add new information or change what has been written. It is your book and you have complete veto over it.
I take care of everything - interviews, writing, editing, proofreading, typesetting, cover design, and printing - which means you can sit back, relax and enjoy the whole life story experience.

Our initial discussion, where we chat about a possible project, is free of charge.
I'm delighted to share some comments from recent clients.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Katarina on my memoir. She was helpful, patient, thorough and professional and made the whole experience very easy for me."
"My book about Dad's life is being enjoyed by my family and friends - one of whom has commented already that it is 'so beautifully written'."
"My books arrived this morning and I am quite overwhelmed. I could not have summed up enough energy to do a book about my life without Katarina's kind and gentle direction."
What if we live miles apart?
That's no problem. I will set you up with online video conferencing so we can talk to each other through a computer, tablet or mobile phone. This technology is free of charge and very easy to use, and I will make sure you get lots of practice so you feel confident about using it. Wherever you live we can connect!
Do you only write books about a person's whole life?
I can write a book about your entire life, or just an episode or two of particular interest or significance, for example, living through war, a special romance, or an absorbing job or hobby. Maybe you want a book about someone else in the family, a much-loved parent or grandparent, or a relative who is deceased but played an important part in your family’s history? Whatever the case, I can help.
